The connection between social justice and therapy is something I’ve been interested in since before I even became a therapist. Now, I'm interested in actively not replicating systemic oppression in the counselling room and a social justice approach to therapy is a way I can do this.
LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy – what is it and why’s it important?
Being LGBTQIA+-affirming is the acknowledgement and acceptance of a client’s sexual orientation and identity. A client might not be coming to therapy to discuss this specifically, but as our identities crucially shape how we experience the world, affirming theirs is important.
