Counselling for Trauma
I work with individuals coming to counselling for trauma, both online and in person in east London
Trauma can show up in unexpected ways. Maybe you respond to people, environments or situations in ways you don’t understand; you find yourself feeling anxious, panicky, angry or on edge but not sure why. Perhaps memories are on a loop or you keep having flashbacks.
Trauma can be one big event or experience, or multiple experiences over a period of time; it can be something you’ve experienced yourself or something you’ve witnessed. You might want to explore the impact of childhood trauma on your life and relationships now, or you might have experienced something traumatic more recently as an adult.
Some of the things I can support you with include:
Emotional neglect in childhood
Emotional abuse and gaslighting
Sexual abuse
Sexual assault
Physical abuse
Medical trauma
Coercive and controlling relationships
Witnessing the trauma or abuse of others
Navigating relationships after trauma
Self worth and self esteem issues
Understanding your experience of trauma and its impact
People are often nervous about starting counselling for trauma. There can be a perception that you’ll have to describe your traumatic experience(s). This can be scary and offputting if you haven’t before, or feel disconnected and matter-of-fact if you’ve repeated many times. In therapy with me, you won’t have to go into describing your trauma for us to be able to work with it. I'll support you to understand your nervous system, develop resources to help you manage the feelings and sensations coming up for you, and slowly, at your own pace, get to a place where the impact doesn’t feel as intense and overwhelming.
If you’re looking for therapy for trauma and would like to book an initial trial session, get in touch.
